A Dog Licence is required for pet dogs over six months of age.  This is purchased from your Parish Constables office and must be renewed every January.

Dog Identification – Guernsey law states:  “A person who keeps a dog in respect of which dog tax is chargeable under the Dog Licences (Guernsey) Law, 1969/79, shall ensure that the dog, while on a public highway, is wearing round its neck a collar bearing on it, or having attached to it, a disc made of metal or other durable material bearing on it, in clearly legible letters, the initial letters of the Christian names of that person followed by the surname of that person and the distinguishing letter of the parish in which that person has his ordinary place of residence.”

This is the minimum identification required by Guernsey law, other information is optional i.e., phone number, address etc.

You must clean up after your dog in all public places.  Specific bins for dog litter are provided around the Island.

Between May 1st and September 30th dogs are not permitted on these beaches:  L’ancresse/Pembroke, Fermain, Petit Bot, L’Eree, Vazon (Northern end), Cobo, and Port Soif.  There are signs at access points.

There are other areas where dogs are not permitted all year round such as Lihou causeway, Lihou Island, children’s play areas, specified public sports and playing fields.

The southern end of Vazon (Richmond) is a valuable feeding and nesting site for wading birds and dog owners are asked to avoid this area at all times.
Nesting Birds 2013 – this document contains information about avoiding nesting sites.  As a Club we strongly promote responsible dog ownership and know that our members will act on the information contained here which will lead to us all making a  positive contribution to the environment.  Thank you.
