Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme promotes socially acceptable dogs and responsible dog owners.  This non-competitive Scheme was introduced in 1992 and is open to all dogs, you do not have to be a member of the Island Dog Training Club to take part in an assessment*.  It has been designed to assess the handler’s ability to control and generally care for their dog in every-day situations.

There are four levels:  Puppy – April 2016 which is for dogs aged up to 12 months of age followed by Bronze – April 2016Silver – April 2016 and Gold – April 2016.

The exercises in these assessments are based on things you do every-day with your dog, such as walking along the road, getting in and out of the car, greeting a stranger, food manners, coming when called etc.

We now have five Kennel Club qualified assessors in the Island and an ongoing programme of training and assessments throughout the year.

Dog must comply with local legislation to be eligible to take part in an assessment:  Legal requirements in Guernsey

*Dogs must be vaccinated to use the Island Dog Training Club premises.
